ACCESSING THE NEW YORK TIMES (nyt) ONLINE

The library provides patrons with basic digital access to the New York Times' current news content including newsletters, if desired. NYT Games and NYT Cooking are now included.
Follow the instructions below to get started with the New York Times access through our library. Scroll to the bottom for information on using a mobile app for access instead of via a web browser.

getting started

step one

Use our special NYT login page to start. On this page, you'll enter your library card number and PIN.

step two

You will then be given an access code. Click on the "redeem" option next to the access code.

step three

Create a free account or log in with an existing account. If creating a new account, you will be asked to create a password. Additionally, when creating a new account the box opting you into marketing communications from the New York Times will be checked by default. In order to opt out of these, please uncheck the box before creating the account. Notification settings can be updated once the account has been created as well.

step four

Receive the access confirmation from the NYT. You will also receive an email with this confirmation.

STEP FIVE

Continue if creating the account. Otherwise, if you are within your Basic Digital Access Subscription time frame, you will login at nytimes.com and you will see your subscription displayed under your account. Once this period has ended, you will need to repeat the steps above to gain new access.

nyt cooking

Access NYT Cooking through the following URL:
https://melstage.tln.lib.mi.us/NYT/manc.html
To activate your subscription, you’ll need to log in or register first. This login, like the regular subscription, is good for 24 hours and you must repeat these instructions after that time frame.

nyt games

Access NYT Games through the following URL:
https://melstage.tln.lib.mi.us/NYT/manc.html
To activate your subscription, you’ll need to log in or register first. This, like the regular subscription, is good for 24 hours and you must repeat these instructions after that time frame.

THE NEW YORK TIMES DIGITAL APP

Access to the NYT through the library can also be done through the NYT mobile app. This free app is available for Android, iOS, and Fire tablets. You can download the app through your device's app store.
Follow the above to instructions on the app to access the NYT. If you're using a mobile device, open your device’s browser to the NYT page with the remote access link to get the access code, not the New York Times app itself. Then, once you launch the NYT app and sign in with the email address you used to register, the code will have already been applied.
